help us build a new rink

We need your ideas!

The Columbus Hockey and Skate Center opened its doors back in January of 2001, bringing public skating and roller hockey leagues to Columbus youth and adults. Over the past couple of years, the rink has expanded its offerings to include indoor soccer and dodgeball leagues. If you have been out to our current location, you know that our rink is not a full-size rink. Sure, it is large enough to handle what we currently offer, but we have other great ideas for new sports leagues or other activites we could hold at our facility. Unfortunately, our current location is not large enough to allow us the chance to make this happen. Plus, our building has its obvious flaws, both inside and out.

So, we would like to get moving...into a new rink that is! We would like to relocate into an existing, empty building, or build a brand new facility to house our business. This will allow us the opportunity to offer more options for the public in terms of entertainment for all ages.

We have always run our business with the intentions of letting the public determine what we should offer, and also taken public comments and suggestions and put them to work. For example, our dodgeball leagues were created for kids because they love to play dodgeball, and the adults even started their own league! Or, the kids can tell us what they want to hear for music during a skate night.

At the same time, however, we still want to be able to offer everything at a price that everyone can afford. We know that if nobody can afford it, nobody will come. We have always wanted to make sure that our events and activities were affordable for everyone, and that is what we plan to continue doing. Like our indoor soccer or roller hockey leagues, where we let you play for free just for bringing in new faces. Or, the money we spent on buying gear for our hockey players to borrow during the season, so they didn't have to go out and buy their own.

thanks for your support

so what can you do to help?

The easiest and most helpful suggestion we have, is telling others about what we are doing. We don't advertise much, mostly to help keep costs down for you. By telling others about our sports leagues or skate nights, you can help bring in more new faces and ideas that will help build this community entertainment center. Bring a friend or two to a skate night. Bring a neighbor or family along to our Family Skate Night. Invite others out to watch or join our sports leagues.

We would like to hear your ideas. While we work on planning the layout or design of our new facility, or its potential location, we would like to hear what you have to say. Have any ideas for what we should offer inside? What about outside? Should we have a few arcade games, or an entire room full of them? What about concession stand items? Any new food items you would like us to serve? Or, do you have an idea for a sports league that we could start up? What about an event you would like us to bring to town? We would like to hear any ideas that you might have. All of these ideas will help us make sure that we have our new location planned out just right. You can email your ideas to rink@columbuseventcenter.com, or give us a call at (402)562-5663.
