hockey myths
We are currently working to rebuild inline hockey as a powerhouse among other sports in town. Unfortunately, there are two myths out there that have always haunted hockey...hockey being a 'violent sport' and an 'expensive sport' are exactly what we are talking about.
Let's take a look at the first myth, hockey as a 'violent sport.' For all concerned parents out there, our inline hockey leagues are not in any way violent. In fact, our leagues are non-contact. That means that you'll find more hitting in midget football games than you will see in our leagues. Our hockey leagues, being non-checking and non-contact, are actually safer than soccer, and could be compared to the contact levels of basketball games. We do not allow body-to-body contact, so you don't have to worry about all of the hitting you see in professional NHL hockey games. Also, fighting is not tolerated in any form. Come out and watch a league game, and before long you will see just how clean, safe, and FUN our leagues really are.
The biggest drag on hockey is that it is an 'expensive sport' to play. While it is true that you need more equipment than any other sport in order to properly protect yourself from pucks and falls, and this equipment does typically cost quite a bit of money. So, to help you out, we have found a way to make our leagues very affordable to all participants. First of all, we have made our leagues very affordable. Secondly, you don't need to buy equipment, as we have gear available for you to borrow each week. On top of that, we offer additional incentives to make hockey so affordable, you could play for free! Here's how...
For starters, our roller hockey leagues are cheaper than other leagues elsewhere in the state or country. With youth leagues starting at just $30, our leagues are much more affordable than other hockey leagues in other towns. And, if you bring a new player into our leagues, you get to play for FREE! That's right, just for bringing along a friend, you get to play for free (click here for details). Not only do you save money, but you also have other people you know in the leagues. It is definitely a win-win situation! All returning players are eligible to use this discount option. So, bring a friend and save some money! And, for just $10 more, your child can participate in club hockey practices, which will further develop his/her abilities as a hockey player.
To sweeten the deal, we also throw in free skating for all new hockey players. New hockey players will get to skate for free the entire night at any one of our skate nights (up to five weeks per league, a $25.00 value). This offer is good for any brand-new hockey player participating in their first league. As you can see, you can play hockey for free, AND get free skating on top of it. Can it get any better than that?
Actually, yes it can. As we mentioned earlier, the equipment needed to play hockey can be expensive. So, we have a couple of different options out there for our hockey players. First of all, we have purchased rental hockey gear that you can use each week during the season. This way, you don't have to go out an invest in equipment until you know you love the sport (and we know you will!). We have equipment in a variety of sizes sure to fit you. For those wanting to buy their own gear, we have a hockey pro shop at the rink, where you will find the absolute best prices on hockey gear. We even beat Internet equipment prices. And, if we can't beat a price, we'll help you find it for cheaper! We just want you to play hockey, and we know that you can't do that if you can't afford the gear. Also, if you purchase a set of gear from the rink (helmet, gloves, shinguards, and stick), your league fee for that season will be waived, and you get to play for free. Hey, you invested in the gear, we'll give you a free league!
This deal is too sweet to pass up! Free hockey, free skating, and no equipment to buy. We dare you to turn this one down! So, if you are ready to get signed up, visit our hockey registration page for information on how to get registered.
